The National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity, or the NCFDD, provides workshops, coaching and intensive mentoring resources delivered virtually to help academics progress their careers.

About the Role

The Director of Marketing will lead and do, including developing, analyzing, and driving the best marketing strategies that increase awareness of the NCFDD and support growth. As a key member of the management team, the Director of Marketing will be responsible for managing and building a team that executes the NCFDD’s marketing initiatives. This position will report to the COO.

The role will require you to:

  • Be both a leader and operator, leading the marketing and taking an active hands-on role in marketing campaigns
  • Gaining deep understanding of the NCFDD’s products and customer segments
  • Working cross functionality to determine the best and most efficient way to market to the different stakeholders
  • The ability to experiment and measure and identify successes and opportunities
  • Building, managing, and developing a marketing team

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in business and / or marketing; advanced degree in marketing or an MBA a plus
  • Experience in developing and executing direct marketing
  • People management experience
  • Experience segmenting customers and using data to generate insightful findings required
  • Experience with CRMs, including HubSpot and Mailchimp, and customer segmentation
  • Advanced use in standard business applications, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Passionate about learning, taking ownership, and executing with excellence
  • Strong team player able to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills the ability to articulate findings clearly and effectively

Detailed Responsibilities


  • Gain a deep understanding of the NCFDD’s products and customer segments
  • Develop and execute strategies and campaigns that attract new customers and keep current customers
  • Develop marketing strategies for new products or services
  • Review current marketing trends and initiatives to determine the effectiveness of different styles and strategies
  • Create and maintain a successful brand and image that attracts customers to the product or service
  • Research competitors to stay current with similar products or services on the market
  • Discover, analyze, and interpret trends / patterns that drive deeper understanding of products and customer segments
  • Develop, measure, and analyze marketing experiments that can lead to growth


  • In collaboration with Product leaders, develop marketing plans for each product
  • In collaboration with the Sales teams, communicate results through case studies and other presentations
  • In collaboration with the Data team, build, manage a comprehensive, segmented customer database


  • Train, develop, and supervise marketing team members that execute marketing priorities and initiatives
  • Thriving in a high-growth environment, being nimble and able to drive the team through ambiguity
  • Develop and own tracking of team workflow, ensuring on-time and accurate delivery of requests
  • Develop and coordinate pro-active monitoring of marketing campaigns across products
  • Work with the Leadership Team to develop analysis frameworks for regular and ad-hoc reporting
  • Identify strategy for communication of results to Leadership and NCFDD Team

  • Reduced work hours during “Summer Fridays”
  • Paid parking spot in downtown Detroit for use for work and personal purposes
  • Monthly home-internet reimbursed
