Position Summary

Assistant Financial Controller

The Assistant Financial Controller role will report directly to the Financial Controller and be responsible for working with all areas of the business to maintain all aspects of the financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget, and forecasts preparation as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. The Assistant Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining financial records under the guidance of the Financial Controller.

As an Applicant, You Must Have:

  • Proven work experience as an Accountant or Assurance Staff
  • Earned a Bachelor of Accounting degree, CPA required
  • Excellent understanding of accrual accounting and US GAAP
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks and accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience creating financial statements, making journal entries, and reconciling accounts
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, adhere to deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure excellent quality of work
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a high-functioning team
  • Understanding of miscellaneous Human Resources responsibilities (401k, payroll, employee benefits, etc.)
  • The technical savvy to work in a paperless electronic environment and eagerly embrace frequent technological advancements and system upgrades and refinements
  • A commitment to handle confidential business and financial information with integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness

Detailed Responsibilities:

  1. Accounting Operations

Work with Financial Controller on all accounting operations including coordinating with the Financial Accountant to manage:

  1. Accounts Receivable
  2. Accounts Payable
  3. Employee Reimbursements and Expense Reporting
  4. Payroll
  5. Other duties as assigned

2. Financial Reporting & Analysis

  1. Assist in preparing periodic journal entries and account adjustments
  2. Assist in preparing periodic financial statements, budgets, and other reports as necessary
  3. Assist in preparing workpapers for the annual audit
  4. Assist in monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  5. Assist in financial analysis
  6. Assist in preparing spreadsheets as requested

3. Core Team Responsibilities

  1. Work with Financial Controller and Financial Accountant on assigned tasks
  2. Work cross-functionally with team on any tasks that are assigned
  3. Be located in the Metro Detroit area with the ability to travel to NCFDD home office in Downtown Detroit up three days per week, post-pandemic
  4. Occasional business travel will be required for professional and team development, post-pandemic
